September is Menopause Awareness Month, a subject very close to my heart. I think there is much information out there that could leave us feeling that all menopausal women have to look forward to is being a sweaty forgetful fat mess for the rest of their lives! I think its time to change the mind set, I feel liberated that I can walk down the tampax aisle knowing I never have to buy another pack (for myself) again – it still makes me chuckle that despite the fact that I had a cycle every year of my life between 15 and 47 (pretty much) it still crept up on me at the most inconvenient and inopportune moments.
If you are not quite sure what the menopause is, what to expect and what you can do about it, please re-visit this blog I wrote earlier this year.
This week I want to share with you a blog written by The Holistic Core Restore® Clinical Lead and Women's Health Physiotherapist Michelle Lyons, which she has called "Thoracic Thoughts". Michelle addresses the importance of the thoracic spine particularly as we come into mid-life and it's relationship with not only our bone health but our respiratory function, mood, cardiovascular health and even as a moderator of menopausal symptoms and healthy self image.
I feel privilidged and proud to be fit, happy and healthy at fifty – there is no doubt that having a healthy nutritious diet (most of the time), making a few lifestyle tweaks and all the exercise that I do has helped me to walk the menopause walk more easily. I'm not pretending it has been a trip to the park, or that I am without a few rather frustrating symptoms - just ask my husband!!. However, I feel empowered that I have finally learned to say “No”, and that putting myself first occasionally without the guilt has really helped. My hubbie and I have time for each other, our lives are no longer dominated by school runs and homework and when my gorgeous daughter is at home I love nothing more than sharing a glass of wine with her and having an adult conversation.
Enjoy the reading knowing that improving your body confidence may be as simple as buying a new bra!!
